April 1992 The relation between my CVS, Brian Berliner's cvs and GNU CVS. I wrote the original version of CVS, in shell scripts way back, in 1985 I think. This made its way through the world, where Brian Berliner (berliner@Sun.COM) picked it up, converted it to C and extended it a bit. We didn't now about this and went on developing CVS to version 3.0 of March 1991. By that time we had discovered Brian's efforts, but now the versions had diverged. Brian and I agree that one day they should be brought together again, but with both of us having too much to do anyway chances of this are slim. In the meantime the development of Brian's cvs has be taken over by GNU. One good thing is that both CVS 3.0 (ours) and cvs 1.3 (Brian's and GNU's) use the same administration structure and can be used interchangeably.
